Security Information

The Art of Change falls inside the security zone set up by the United States Secret Service for the day of inauguration. Because of this, certain restrictions will apply that may affect what you should bring to the Art of Change and how you get there.

To arrive at the Art of Change, please factor the following items into your plans:

  • There will be no parking in this area--please plan to arrive via the DC Metro.
  • The closest metro stop to the Art of Change, Mt. Vernon/Convention Center, will be closed at the time of the event. Yes, we know the Metrorail site says it will be open--our information comes directly from the Secret Service. The nearest active metro stop will be Gallery Place/Chinatown which has exits at the intersection of 7th and H St NW, 3 blocks south of the entrance for the Art of Change.
  • The area between Massachusetts Ave to O St NW and between 6th to 10th Streets NW will be a security checkpoint. To get into this area, please make sure you have a copy of your ticket printed out to show the Secret Service as well as a photo ID.
  • The last train out of Gallery Place leaves at 2:00 AM--if you leave the event close to this time, be prepared to take a taxi home.

We have the following recommendations for any items you bring:

  • Avoid bringing backpacks or bags--they will likely be searched.
  • If you are carrying any items with you, make sure you can explain to security why you need them.

Be safe, pack light, and be prepared to have a great time.
