“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.” -Barack Obama |
The Need for Participation
Due to the grassroots support which has had a crucial role in determining the outcome of the 2008 Presidential Election, we believe that the participation of attendees to this event is crucial to realizing an event that will reflect the shift in emphasis in American politics this election represents to the country. Similar to how the advent of the Burning Man Festival with its principle of participation over passivity likewise reflects a growing ethos of events that are created by, with, and for the same pool of individuals.
We believe that this ethic encourages healthy participation in society by removing concepts of who should and should not be responsible for the creation and maintenance of our shared culture. We would like to encourage all attendees to this event to contribute to it by performing, displaying art, volunteering, hosting a visiting artist, or donating to make this event a success that truly encapsulates all of Washington, DC’s creative communities.
How can I participate?
